Introduction of Readers' Ticket System in Tyne and Wear Archives Service (TWAS)
From Tuesday 3 January 2006, Tyne and Wear Archives Service is joining the County Archive Research Network (CARN). From this date, anyone wishing to use the Archives will require a valid readers' ticket.
CARN is a national scheme that has operated in many County Record Offices throughout England and Wales since 1987, in order to safeguard the preservation and safe use of our archival heritage.
If you do not already hold a CARN ticket, you can obtain one from any of the participating Record Offices. You will need to complete a simple registration form and to provide official proof of identity.
Regular users of TWAS may wish to register before January. Please ask a member of staff or pick up an information leaflet for further information.
